4 Pinterest Marketing Myths you need to know about!

I am sure you are over the million and five different opinions on how Pinterest Marketing is supposed to work. Same. 🙋‍♀️

Some people say you need a million views, some people say you need to pin 100+ pins a day, some people say you shouldn’t pin to group boards, and some people say you should! So what the heck are you supposed to do?

I have been living in breathing all things Pinterest marketing for the last FIVE+ years. I do not have a “my way or the highway” mentality when it comes to Pinterest Marketing, and that is because Pinterest is a CONSTANTLY changing platform. This means something that has worked for you for a while could all of a sudden stop working due to an update or an algorithm change.

So, here are a few “myths” I want to break down for you!

1. You need to pin 100+ pins a day to gain any sort of traction. FALSE.

Not only will pinning too much content HURT your reach, your chance of getting flagged as spam increases significantly. I NEVER pin more than 40 pins a day, and right now, I am sending out about 25 pins a day.  Now that works best for ME right now. That number could vary plus or minus for you.

2. Your monthly Pinterest views matter. FALSE

They are simply a “vanity” number. For example, my current monthly views are 346.7K. Not GREAT but not bad either.

However, here are my WEBSITE stats from the same day: Just over 8,000 DAILY views.

As you can see, you DO NOT need 2 million views to get a lot of website traffic. So those “see how I get 1 million views” posts make me want to scream.

3. You need to pay to have a good reach. FALSE.

Truth be told, I get much better conversion when I pay for Facebook ads over Pinterest ads. You can get JUST as high of a reach if you use the proper SEO formatted correctly. And you don’t have to spend a dime! See below image, not a paid pin, just good SEO! And those are just the stats from the last 15 days.

4. Your number of followers matters. FALSE.

Back in the day, like 7+ years ago, the second you pined something, it would instantly appear in ALL of your follower’s smartfeeds.

Now, that isn’t the case. Yes, your followers can see your current pinned content easier than most bu,t if your pin is not optimized for SEO properly, no, one will see it.

And even if you only have 100 followers, you can still get a GREAT reach if you optimize your pin, profile, AND boards properly!

Two things to keep in mind that will help!

  1. Pinterest is a SEARCH engine, SEO is VERY important! If you use proper SEO, you will do GREAT!
  2. What works for one pinner will most likely NOT work for the next. So try not to feed too much into “this is how you should pin” or “this is how you get 1 million Pinterest views!”

Happy Pinning!
